Jose Luis Duran Torres, 40

Jose Luis Duran Torres, a 40-year-old Latino, died  Monday. Feb. 2, after he was assaulted in the 4100 block of South Main Street in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Torres and another man were walking north on South Main Street at 11:55 p.m. on Jan. 31 when they encountered several others and got into an argument, said LAPD Det. Richard Arciniega.

Torres and his companion continued walking, while the other men went to a dark-colored Tahoe and drove up to Torres and his companion. The men got out of the vehicle and hit Torres with a baseball bat, Arciniega said. The assailant then got back into the Tahoe, which made a U-turn and ran over Torres.

Torres was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead Feb. 2 at 12:32 a.m.
