Jose Luis Flores-Ruiz, a 30-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Saturday, June 1 in the 5800 block of Hazeltine Avenue in Van Nuys, according to the L.A. County coroner’s office.
A gunman entered Flores-Ruiz’s home, located in a fourplex, and shot him about 5 p.m., said LAPD Det. Rob Bub. He said there was no indication of what Flores-Ruiz was doing at the time of the shooting.
A short time later, Flores-Ruiz’s mother and sister returned to the residence and found him, according to a news release.
Paramedics responded and pronounced Flores-Ruiz dead at 5:25 p.m., coroner’s records show.
