Jose Omar Pacas Marquez, 35

Jose Omar Pacas Marquez, a 35-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 29, in the 6800 block of Adamson Avenue in Bell Gardens, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Pacas Marquez was home with his family shortly before 5 p.m. when someone knocked at his door, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.

The person at the door was described as a black male adult, Mendoza said. 

Pacas Marquez went outside and stood on his driveway to talk to the man, “and then gunshots were heard,” Mendoza said.  

When people went outside, they saw Pacas Marquez lying on the driveway and the suspect running west on Lubec Street, Mendoza said. 

Pacas Marquez was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:03 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds. 

Investigators don’t know why the man came to the house, or why Pacas Marquez went outside to talk, Mendoza said. 

Pacas Marquez was born in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga in Jalisco, Mexico, according to his obituary.  He lived in Bell Gardens with his wife and three young children.
