Jose Rincon, a 28-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Jan. 4, in the 9900 block of South Hoover Street in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 7 p.m., Rincon was using a pay phone at a gas station when a gunman fired several shots, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Rincon was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Police said it is unknown whether the gunman was on foot or in a vehicle.

It's been three months since you left this world. It still hurts like the first time I received the news. I still remember the first day we met in 2007 and I look over our pictures and tattoos. Tears can't seem to stop running down my face. You left too soon, you broke many promises. The biggest promise you broke was to always be there when I needed you, you left too soon this world. Although we each took separate paths in life, you where always a call away and always knew how to comfort me. You never hesitated to run to me when I most needed you, and over all never gave up in our love. I will always carry your memory alive in me and forever love you for all the good memories we created together. Your in a better place now and soon we will meet again to enjoy our Starbucks like good old times. RIP Alfredo <3
