Jose Alfredo Rincon, 28

Jose Rincon, a 28-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Jan. 4, in the 9900 block of South Hoover Street in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 7 p.m., Rincon was using a pay phone at a gas station when a gunman fired several shots, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Rincon was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Police said it is unknown whether the gunman was on foot or in a vehicle.
