Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Romero was walking with his wife when he was confronted and shot. The shooting happened at 9:40 a.m. He was taken to a hospital and died there at 10:18 a.m., Winter said.

Jose Romero, a 32-year-old Latino, was shot in the torso at Whittier Boulevard and Downey Road in East Los Angeles and died Friday, Aug.7, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.
