Joseph Edward Galvan, 22

Joseph Edward Galvan (2015-09-10)

Joseph "Joey" Edward Galvan, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Sept. 10 near East 220th Street and Avalon Boulevard in Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Sept. 9, Galvan was sitting at a bus stop on his way to work at a warehouse when he was approached by a man, said Lt. Steve Jauch. There was a brief physical struggle between the two, then the man pulled out a gun and shot Galvan in the head.

Jauch said it’s unknown what was said, if anything, between Galvan and the gunman.

“We don’t know if it was a robbery or not, we just don’t have that information right now,” he said.

Galvan was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. Sept. 10.

Jauch said he’s “unaware” of any history of problems at that bus stop and that investigators have not found out about any conflicts that Galvan may have been involved in. He said Galvan was not involved with gangs in the area.

Jauch said that the gunman is believed to be male, either black or Latino. Witnesses said that he is about 6 feet tall and of medium build.
