A story for every victim

Joseph Gober Jr., 46

Joseph Gober Jr., a 46-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, May 29, in the 200 block of West Third Street in San Pedro, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 5 a.m., Gober was walking in his neighborhood when one or more people approached and shot him, Los Angeles Police Det. Scott Coffee said.

It’s unknown whether words were exchanged or there was a confrontation, police said. Residents called police after the shooting.

Gober was taken to a hospital, where he died several hours later, at 7:32 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Gober had a work injury and often walked in his neighborhood in the mornings, Coffee said.

Police think the shooter or shooters are gang members because the area is claimed by a gang. Authorities said Gober was not a gang member.

Police are working on a suspect description. Anyone with information is asked to call Coffee at (310) 726-7887. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
