Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said a broken beer bottle was used to kill Martinez. The incident happened at 12:25 a.m., and Martinez was pronounced dead at a hospital at 1:14 a.m., Winter said.

Joseph Martinez, a 49-year-old white man, was slashed in the cheek and neck and died Thursday, Aug. 13. Martinez was slashed in the 12000 block of South Figueroa Street in Harbor Gateway, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.
