Investigators have not released the cause of death or other details about the victims.

Jacquline Rieux’s husband, Algernon Fitzgerald Rieux, a 26-year-old black man, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder June 5.

The June 4 incident began at 8:12 a.m., when South Los Angeles Station deputies received a call about a baby not breathing, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a woman outside performing CPR on the infant. The woman told deputies that there was another person inside -- Jacquline Rieux -- who also needed help.

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics pronounced both mother and son dead at the scene, according to the news release.

Algernon Rieux was identified as a suspect later that morning. Investigators described him as “bipolar, possibly suicidal and under the influence of methamphetamines” in a wanted poster issued later that day.

The suspect was found in the San Pedro area June 5 and is being held in Los Angeles County Jail in lieu of $1,040,000 bail, according to the news release.
