Juan Ignacio Alcala-Romero, 29

Juan Alcala-Romero, a 29-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the 1200 block of 256th Street W in Harbor City, according to police and Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., Alcala-Romero returned home from a store and was standing in his backyard when he was shot, said Los Angeles Police Det. Julie Scruggs.

Alcala-Romero was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s unknown if the gunman acted alone or was with others, Scruggs said.

Police are looking for witnesses. Alcala-Romero was not a documented gang member, and so far the motive for the shooting is unknown.
