Juan Fuentes, a 16-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Aug. 25, near Union Avenue and Temple Street in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
An unknown male walked up to Fuentes about 11:30 p.m. and fired multiple times with a handgun, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Bruce Borihanh.
The suspect, described as 19 to 24 years old, struck Fuentes in the head and shoulder, Borihanh said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect fled on foot and LAPD officers are continuing to search for him.
Police say the killing may have been gang-related.
