Juan Ignacio Mendoza, 25

Juan Ignacio Mendoza, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Sept. 11, near 58th Street and South Ascot Avenue in Central-Alameda, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police received a report of a shooting around 9:35 p.m., said Det. T. Thomspon of the LAPD Newton Division. Responding officers found the injured Mendoza and he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mendoza’s preliminary coroner’s report shows he sustained one gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators believe the shooter fired on Mendoza from a parked car as he walked down the street. The incident is believed to be gang-related.

The shooter was described as male Latino in a white four-door car last seen traveling east on 58th Street toward Compton.
