A story for every victim

Juan Ramon Pacheco, 28

Juan Pacheco, a 28-year-old Latino, was shot Friday, Aug. 27, in a road-rage incident on the 105 Freeway Lakewood Boulevard onramp in Downey, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Pacheco was arguing with another driver as he drove toward the 105 Freeway along Lakewood Boulevard about 6:30 p.m., his wife, who was in the passenger seat, told police. Their two young children were also in the car.

As they entered the freeway onramp at Woodruff Avenue, she heard a gunshot, said Downey Police Lt. Phil Rigo.

Pacheco, of Bellflower, was shot in the upper body, Rigo said. He pulled the car to the side of the freeway, got out and walked to the back of the vehicle, where he collapsed.

He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital, police said.

The suspect fled. Police are searching for a blue 2002-03 Honda Accord with dark tinted windows and chrome rims.

"Obviously the family is most distraught," Rigo said.
