Julien Robert Gonzalez, 24

Julien Gonzalez, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police Friday, March 2, in the 1200 block of West Lomita Boulevard in Harbor City, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers were patrolling the area when they saw Gonzalez riding a bike with no lights about 10:40 p.m., according to an LAPD news release.

Authorities attempted to stop Gonzalez and cite him for "Riding without lights during hours of darkness," police said.

Officials said Gonzalez did not stop. He got off his bike and began to quickly walk away from them.

Police said Gonzalez pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the officers. At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

After the incident, paramedics were called and Gonzalez was pronounced dead. Police said they recovered a gun at the scene.

According to coroner's records, he suffered several gunshot wounds to his body.

The two officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Ben McPheeters, who has been with department 18 years, and Jesus Carrillo, who has been with the department for 13 years.

The LAPD Force Investigation Division is looking into the shooting.
