A story for every victim

Julio Calderon Hernandez, 28

Julio Hernandez, a 28-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Dec. 18, in the 1300 block of Raymond Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Officers responded to a call about 5:30 a.m. regarding a male adult who had been shot in a home, said Lisa Massacani, spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department.

When police arrived, they found Hernandez suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken by paramedics to St. Mary Medical Center, where he died at 1:30 p.m., coroner's records show.

During the investigation, detectives learned that two men, Juan Francisco Moreno, a 30-year-old Latino, and Paul James Moore, a 34-year-old Latino, had gone to a house where Hernandez was staying.

Officials said the three got into a verbal disagreement, at which point Hernandez was shot, and the two assailants fled the scene. The incident is believed to be gang-related.

Four days after the shooting, Long Beach police apprehended Moreno and Moore, and they were arrested on suspicion of murder, Massacani said.

Anyone with more information about the case is asked to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives David Rios or Roger Zottneck at (562) 570-7244. Those who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
