June Collins, 84

June Collins, an 84-year-old white woman, was found dead from sharp force injuries on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the 16600 block of Carriage Place in Hacienda Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroners' records. 

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to Collins' home about 5:30 p.m. for a welfare check, after neighbors reported that she hadn't been seen in about a week, according to a department news release.

When deputies entered the home they smelled a strong odor and discovered two bodies in advanced stages of decomposition, according to Lt. John Corina. 

Investigators found a woman, later identified as Collins, in one room, and a male later identified as Gavin Bustamante, a 16-year-old white male, in another room. 

[Note: An earlier version of this post, based on information from the coroner's office, identified Bustamante as John Doe No. 248. His age was not provided.]

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene at 6:16 p.m. Colllins was found in pool of blood with stabs or cuts to her neck, according to the coroner's records. The teen was also found in a pool of blood, with stab wounds, according to coroner records. 

As they searched the property, investigators discovered that Collins' car was missing. Deputies found the Toyota Camry about noon the next day in the 12100 block of Magnolia Street in El Monte. 

Corina said Collins lived with her adult son, but he was in custody and not at home when the two were killed.
