A story for every victim

Junior Salinas, 19

Junior Salinas, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, July 5, in the 1600 block of West 2nd Street in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

A group of people were outside a home about 12:30 a.m. at a Fourth of July celebration, when more than one person walked up and began shooting at the crowd, said Los Angeles Police Det. Ray Martinez.

Six people were shot, police said.

Salinas and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Abril Onofre, who was five months pregnant, were pronounced dead at the scene at 1 a.m., according to coroner's records.

An 18-year-old man, a family friend named Ruben Alcantara Jr., later died at a hospital, records show.

Police say they believe the triple homicide is connected to gang activity, but Martinez declined to specify how.

Police are seeking additional witnesses.
