Kenneth Lynn Peevy, a 27-year-old black man, was shot and killed on Friday, July 17, in the 1600 block of West 109th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies went to the scene after receiving a call about shots fired, according to a department news release.

When they arrived, they found Peevy in the front yard of a residence, with a gunshot wound in his upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:34 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators do not have any suspect information, but the shooting appears to be gang related, according to the release.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

I send out my sympathy to this young man's family first off when one of your loved ones are murdered that is the most pain you can ever feel I also lost my 18yr old son to two coward gang members but I can't blame all gang members for that I grew up in south Los Angeles all my life I have other sons also. In 2006 I posted about my son and guess who had something negative to say about that Syscom3 he is always on here saying some very hurtful things one person said it seems like he is apparently someone in the field police officer, etc. Somewhere along those lines because he always has something very hurtful to say yet he hides behind a keyboard and screen. Syscom3 please be sympathetic towards other people and the pain they are going thru don't assume that these young men who are being murdered are putting their selves in that situation nobody wants to be shot down like a dog to die on the street and have their family hurt most of all their mothers who birthed them from their bodies to be in so much pain as a mother who knows this pain you have no ideal how that feels don't mock anything about our deceased children you are not god yes there is freedom of speech we know this but do you have to comment on this type of pain it only hurts worser. Every time I see a young man on the homicide report I feel in my gut the same pain that I went thru in 2006 knowing there is another mother who has to go thru the same thing. For KP and his family my heart goes out to you regardless of whatever they say about him people will always have an opinion it's what his real family thinks that matters and what his kids remember about him that will truly matter not any strangers, and by the way the 100 days and 100 nights are just a myth only people that live in the hoods will know if it's true are not rumors spread like wildfire. Stop spreading rumors and get true facts...

1st of all everyone is going to have something negative to say. It doesn’t matter who the person is. But for all of you who are talking negative of my family member, where were you when he needed a shoulder to cry on or needed help. Where were you when he wanted someone to talk to or confide in. Where were you when he needed a hug or some positive words spoken to him. Where were you? You say how can such a person be a good father? A good father is one who takes care of his child, loves his child and wants the best for his child. That was my cousin. My cousin was in his child’s unlike most of the fathers in the world. He cared for his son unlike most of the fathers. And for those of you people who don’t know, KP is the first and last initial in his name. I love you cousin. Rest on.

After reading all the comments, both good n bad, you know what's really missing in them all (love) for one another.. It's as if me against you n your opinion if ain't mine does'nt count. Well this part of the reason we have all these tragedy's in the Black community in the first place. Some of us developed a warped mentality of what life truly is, thus many don't care, let alone about themseves. Some of these men n boy's are to gun crazy, yet they have no self esteem, job, education or for the matter nothing to live for. Let me say this in closing these brothers did'nt come into the world like this, someone along the way either inspired them or forced them to this devlish lifestyle, but where were the parents? When i grew up it was very hard to be a gangster, yey i to found myself being lured by gans, I'm just glad I never went to far and never really had any enemies. But that was during the 70's. Today it's crazy .But you know what all of us will stand before GOD and I would'nt want to be in his pressence knowing that I toook innocent or non innocents live for a color...

I heard kp was a "gunner".. And yes his name initials is KP but it stood for killa prancsta.. U can google this.. Kp was funny and had a good heart, but he was also a killer.. It's no secret, even his enemies knew him?? How else would they kno him ? From school? From the internet ? Or from being a active gang member that consist of shooting robbing whatever your main source of income is.. Don't get me wrong not every gang shoots people..u think a saint will cause this much war in LA?? He was obviously a known killer to get that much respect from killers.. Gang members die all the time but not all deaths start war or even cause retaliation.. Some gangsters die for nothing .. Kp put in so much work he has cause all ALIE gangs to kill enemies in his honor.. All u people tryna justify a killer by saying good father need to stop ASAP

So he was respected in the streets and so what many people are and that don't mean they are bad people or terrorist... He brought so much joy, laughter, love to peoples lives...
