Ladell Edmondson, 20 [Updated]

Ladell Edmondson, a 20-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Dec. 19, in the 9200 block of South Central Avenue in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Edmondson was shot in the back about 10:45 a.m., said Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office.

Edmondson was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where he died about 30 minutes later.

The coroner's office had no other information about the shooting.

The Times has contacted investigators to obtain additional details about the case and will post an update as soon as possible.

[Updated Jan. 3, 3:15 p.m.: LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Det. Mark Hahn, who is handling the case, said after Edmondson was shot, he was taken by local residents to the site of the former Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital, which has not had a trauma emergency room since closing in 2007.

The medical facility, which is now an ambulatory clinic open from 8 a.m. to midnight, was unable to treat Edmondson. Paramedics were called and he was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood.

Hahn said Edmondson was a documented gang member and the shooting appeared to be gang-related. At this time, investigators are unable to provide a description of the shooter.

Jesus Christ that man was someone's son, father, brother , as black people we don't respect anything or anyone. To say "Oh Well" at this crucial time in this man's family's life is just ludicrous and heartbreaking that we've become immune to tragedy or to anyone else's heartbreak. My god what have we've become as human beings. I don't know this young man I was just reading the comments and was floored by some of these comments.

I just want to say to this young man's family. "May God bless and comfort you and continue to cover you with his blood in Jesus Name Amen!!!

-- syscom3 thank u for tha facts but other than that your blind to what BigEast76 is really saying, and its not your fault because you dont live in the environment as we do. But BigEast76 is basically supporting gang violence. If you think im just saying this out of stupidity do your research, its all in your face and you dont notice it. Example: when he mentions heading down central he says "Its a whole lot of FLOPPING going on in that area". Flop is a street slang for disrepecting a blood gang known as the BeBops, in which is the area that the decease has had his life taken and had been documented as being a part of. Now after taken that in the writer uses the name "BigEast76" which is in reference to one of the BeBops Bloods rivals 76st Eastcoast crips.... So when i made my comment, i made it so that Bigeast76 should know that speaking on the deceased in that manner is rude and un called for
