A story for every victim

Lafferal Alexander, 59

Lafferal Alexander, a 59-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, Aug. 1, in the 1000 block of East Lexington Avenue in Pomona, according to coroner’s records.

Alexander and his sister-in-law, Bennie Jean Porter, 53, were sitting on a porch about 11:45 p.m. when a gunman or gunmen walked up to the front of the home and began shooting. It is unknown whether there were multiple shooters.

Lafferal was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records. Porter died at a hospital.

The siblings were not robbed, and police are looking for a motive.

“We don’t have any idea who shot them,” said police Lt. Ronald McDonald. “It’s not believed to be gang related.”

Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible.

Detectives urged anyone with knowledge of the shooting to call the Pomona police tip line at (909) 620-2085 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
