Lamont Lavell Crayon, 27

Lamont Crayon, a 27-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 42nd Street and McKinley Avenue in South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's officials.

Ed Winter, a spokesman for the coroner's office, said Crayon was riding his bike when a car pulled up beside him and someone started firing. He was shot about 10:35 a.m. and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:14 a.m., Winter said.

Winter said that at the time of Crayon's death there were no suspects in custody and authorities had not recovered any weapons believed to have been used in the shooting.

Now, I'd like to make a comment. First off RIP to that Man.

Here is what I know to be true. If I am birth to uneducated parents and they choose not to make sure I have a better education than they did, my outlook in life will not be much better than theirs.
I went to Normandie ave and got kicked out because of my dysfunctional family. I went to John Muir and joined a Gang because of my influential friends. I got shot while doing a $100 deal and after I recovered, wound up in Prison after catching another case. So now I'm back on the block, renting a room on 48th and Vermont. Am I a bad guy? No, not necessarily. I am simply a Victim of Circumstances. If I was born to educated parents and raised in Culver City, perhaps i'd be a Manager of some fortune five hundred company. But I wasn't. If I become a victim of a homicide someday, do I deserve that? After all, I did not ask to be here. My parents birth me, put me in an environment with odds against me achieving societal success. I have kids and a wife and we need to eat. My GED is simply not good enough. I would love to go to USC or somewhere similar and get more educated but I cannot afford the tuition. What am I to do? Did the victim here have bigger dreams beyond 42nd and McKinley? I am sure he did. But most of us are stuck. Don't be so quick to judge people you don't know about. Donnie

It seems you are the one full of ignorance. Your post is immature and you contradict yourself. How old are you? Thirteen?

Your cousin Lamont was waiting in line to BUY toys from a Toy Drive? Do you even know what a Toy Drive is? You would either DONATE the toys to a Toy Drive or you would receive them for free. Neither you and family members posting comments on this site have any mention of this man having a job or anything else indicating he was a productive member of our society.

Contrary to what you might believe gang members are up to no good. Hypothetically speaking, say a gangster was applying for a job at Bank ABC and turns in a resume in which his current position says he is the CEO of The XYZ Gang. His skills are listed as: great at sales; good with tools; neighborhood terrorist; knows how to handle an array of guns and have good aim (well, not always, sometimes I miss my target and end up killing innocent people. Ok, most of the time); good at robbing and can run very fast when about to get caught while breaking and entering the home of a hard working family; Great swag.

Do you honestly believe this gangster would be consider for the job? I'll answer that question for you. No he would not. In our society there is no opportunity, no room for a criminal. For someone so perverse and selfish.

We people chose what and who we want to become in life. We are not born with a gangster gene, there is simply no such thing as being “ born into.” I grew up in a harsh environment myself in a City next to Compton, CA. I chose not to be a gangster, instead I chose education. I chose a better life one that is crime free. I ran away from that area at 19 and as fast as you can read this post, assuming your reading comprehension skill is fast enough.

So lie to yourself about how good of a person your family member was. But the reality is different than your distorted perception.
