Latoya Nicole Jenkins, 32

Latoya Nicole Jenkins, a 32-year-old black woman, was fatally shot Tuesday, July 4, in the 200 block of West Lime Street in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

On the night of the killing, Jenkins approached a group of people who were setting off fireworks near her vehicle, according to a coroner’s report. Jenkins and people in the group argued and then fought, police said. After several minutes the fight ended and everyone left. 

About 30 minutes later, the group returned to the carport and attacked Jenkins, according to authorities. During the altercation, Jenkins sustained several gunshot and stab wounds. Inglewood police responded to a call about the fight and found Jenkins on the ground among shards of broken glass and gun casings, according to the report.

Jenkins was transported to the hospital where she died at 11:59 p.m., according to coroner’s records. 

Inglewood police later identified two suspects: Kandice Marie Cunningham, 30, and Jerome Pontaine Johnson, 31. Authorities tracked the two and arrested them in Las Vegas on Nov. 15 They were extradited into the custody of Inglewood police and are expected to return to court Jan. 8 for a preliminary setting.
