Leante Moore, a 16-year-old black youth, was shot and killed Saturday, April 17, in the 15400 block of South Broadway in Gardena, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's officials.

Officers went to the scene about 2 a.m. after getting a call reporting a gunshot victim, said Det. James Charles, of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, who is handling the investigation. When they arrived they found no one.

Investigators later learned Moore's friends took him in a private vehicle to the site of the former Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital, which has not had a trauma emergency room since closing in 2007. The medical facility, which is now an ambulatory clinic open from 8 a.m. to midnight, was unable to treat Moore. He was then taken to Harbor-ULCA Medical Center about 11 miles away in Torrance where he died at 3:01 a.m.

Moore's friends have been interviewed about the circumstances leading to his shooting but have provided no information, Charles said. Investigators do not have any leads on the case.

It's really eating me up inside I can say you're my first love and it really hurts to even reminisce how sweet you were how my cousin asked me if I had a crush on anybody and I said you and she was like do you really think he like you lol I know you we spent a lot of time together where you could have tried to be sexual with me but we always talked and held each other I will never forget you NEVER I love you so much still to this day just reading this tore me up I wish they would've just left you there for the ambulance to come and take you in properly bless their souls and to all the people wondering what he was doing out at 2in the morning one night he asked me if my cousin was going to be mad about me being outside it was maybe 10:30-11pm and I replied no is your mama gonna be mad at you and his face just dropped and he said his mom passed away when he was 2weeks old I believe if not 2weeks then 2months you never know what a person goes through how a person lives or why they live like they do he was 16years old for Christ's sake he could've snuck out of the house why blame his family in their time of grief -imhis mrsbeaird thoughtuknew

Hazel...my first first real boyfriend the first boy that i had to deal wit females hatin on me behind.We were only 12 years old but i really had feelings for him and some nhow we fell apart and would always call me scandalous and be mean to me but somedays when he see me he would smile and give me a hug..i didn't really know him as a teen because i checked out of Davis but i always think of him because when i told my mother about Leante she said "oh thats a nice name"and she named my lil brother Leonte' his is spelled differently but i have always fantasized about seein him again as a teenager and introduce him to my lil brother and when i found out that he was sent home my imagination juss broke down because they could never come true again i love you and i know that you are happy because you can be wit your mother give her lots of love forgive and forget

There is a time for everything and when a loved one dies no matter what age they are it is never the right time for those of us left behind. Your grief is understood, and it wont always be this hard but it will become bearable and you will be able to go on. Dont listen to the stupid comments of the likes of syscom3 He/she has to be a very lonely soul. Surfing the pages of this publication where there is nothing but sadness and you want someone to look at you or listen to you insults. It is obvious how much you need attention even if it is negative. Attention is attention. Your comments probably annoy more than hurt those you speak about but none the less you are being acknowledged and maybe you feel a bit important. What I say to the families annoyed by this persons comments the best medicine is IGNORE him/her and eventually he/she will go away. In the meantime draw closer to God and He will draw closer to you. You are all in my prayers.
