Leonardo Lopez, 17 [Updated]

Leonardo Lopez, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, May 30, near Fickett and Fairmont streets in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

A person walked up to Lopez about 11:25 a.m. and shot him, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Lopez was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he died at 1:45 p.m., according to coroner's records.

At the time of the incident, no arrests were made, Winter said. An autopsy is still pending, Winter said.

Calls to the LAPD Hollenbeck detectives to obtain more information about the shooting were not immediately returned.

The Times will provide additional details about the incident as soon as they become available.

[Update Jan. 4, 2011: Det. Victor Marin, who is handling the investigation, said there have been no new leads in the case.
