Leroy Smith, 55

Leroy Smith, a 55-year-old black man, was killed in a drive-by shooting at 132 W. 70th St., near Main Street in South-Central Los Angeles about 5:38 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25.

According to police, Smith was shot in the chest in a drive-by attack. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Three other people were also wounded in the shooting, including a 5-year-old boy. Officer Julianne Sohn of LAPD's media relations office said the boy suffered a graze to the arm. A 16-year-old was shot in the leg and a 21-year-old woman was shot in the foot. Sohn said there was no description of a vehicle.  This is the second drive-by shooting to have occurred in the LAPD's Newton Division. The homicide was also reported by a citizen.
