Lewis Alvin Haller Jr., 67

Lewis Alvin Haller Jr., a 67-year-old white man, died Monday, Feb. 11, after he was assaulted in the 800 block of Alamitos Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On Feb. 5, about 9 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a battery call in which the victim said he was physically attacked by a man, according to a news release from the department.

When officers arrived, they found Haller with injuries to his upper body. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The next day, Haller was taken to a hospital for his injuries. He was pronounced dead Feb. 11.

Police determined that Haller was attacked by a person who was trespassing into his home and identified the suspect as Cleveland Rogers, a 46-year-old black man from Compton.

Police said that Rogers got into a dispute with Haller, leading to the “violent physical assault.”

Rogers has been charged with one count of murder, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
