Deangelo Lopez, 22

Deangelo Lopez, a 22-year-old black man, was shot and killed by an L.A. County sheriff’s deputy on Thursday, June 27 in the 1100 block of West Arbutus Street in Compton, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.

According to the Sheriff’s Department account, deputies responded to a call reporting a burglary in progress and found Lopez attempting to escape a house about 5:50 a.m.  Lopez allegedly confronted deputies and pointed a revolver at them, according to a department news release.

Lopez was hit by gunfire. He was pronounced dead at 7 a.m. in the yard, according to coroner’s records. Sheriff’s officials said a weapon was recovered at the scene.
