Los Angeles man sentenced in double homicide

A Los Angeles man was sentenced July 14, 2008, to state prison for killing his common-law wife and her 17-year-old son, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Emilio Cruz Heredia, 42, was sentenced to 40 years to life for the stabbing deaths of Carol Bloomfield, 37, and Jonathan Bloomfield.

In June, as jury selection began, Heredia pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Bloomfield and guilty to second-degree murder in the killing of Jonathan.

Bloomfield and her son died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, after being stabbed in the 500 block of East Avenue 28 in Lincoln Heights.

Police who were responding to reports of a domestic disturbance found Bloomfield and her son both badly wounded. Bloomfield died at the scene and her son was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Heredia was arrested at the scene.
