A story for every victim

Luis Alberto De Paz, 20

Luis De Paz, a 20-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, July 20, a day after he was shot near 71st Street and Victoria Avenue in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

On July 19, police responded to the area after there was a call of a shooting about 9:55 a.m., according to an LAPD news release.

Authorities found De Paz in a car with several gunshot wounds, police said. He was taken to a local hospital where he died the next day, according to coroner's records.

In the preliminary coroner's report, it also listed blunt head trauma as one of his injuries.

Investigators say De Paz was driving a 2005 Dodge Stratus at the intersection when three Latinos driving a light-colored sedan shot him. The assailants then drove away northbound on Victoria Avenue.

Detectives believe the shooting was gang-related. No arrests have been made in connection with the case.
