A story for every victim

Luis Eduardo Ramos, 24

Luis Ramos, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, April 6, in the 4300 block of Firestone Boulevard in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities were called to the location Tuesday evening but found no victim, only bullet shell casings, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office. Officers were later notified by St. Francis Medical Center that a person who had been shot was taken in a private vehicle to their facility, Winter said.

Detective Phil Guzman, who is handling the investigation for the L.A. County sheriff's homicide bureau, said Ramos was shot in an alley about 9:10 p.m. Family members discovered him wounded and took him to the hospital, where he died at 9:31 p.m., Guzman said.

Although there were no witnesses to the shooting, it appears to be gang-motivated, Guzman said. There are no suspects at this time.

Anyone with information about Ramos' death is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
