Edward Damian , 18

Edward Damian, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, July 1, in the 500 block of South Long Beach Boulevard in Compton, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this post, based on information from the coroner's office, identified the victim as an unknown 18-year-old Latino.]

Deputies responded to a call regarding a loud party about 2:30 a.m., according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram. When officials arrived, they discovered Damian fatally shot.

While authorities were there, they shot and wounded a gunman.

Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker said "a deputy sent to the address heard gunshots, saw a man with a gun in his hand and shot him.”

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, deputies said.

It was unclear if the gunman also shot Damien.
