Man convicted of killing wife of 25 years

A jury last month found a 60-year-old man guilty of killing his wife of 25 years in Sylmar, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Albino Topete Morales, who is Latino, was convicted Dec. 9 of murder and for shooting at an inhabited dwelling after a six-day trial, prosecutors said.

Morales believed his wife, Maria Morales, was cheating on him though he had no proof, prosecutors said.

On Aug. 11, 2014, Albino Morales shot the 45-year-old woman in their home in Sylmar. During the shooting, a bullet traveled into a neighbor's home and caused damage to multiple rooms. A family was watching TV at the time, prosecutors said.

Morales faces 57 years to life in state prison at a sentencing hearing scheduled for Jan. 20.
