Man pleads guilty in death of Koreatown resident

A 67-year-old man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of a man whose beaten body was found more than a week after he died, prosecutors said.

Roy Lee Adams, who is black, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter in the killing of Cornelius Rich and is expected to receive a 9-year prison sentence Aug. 5, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

A manager at a Koreatown apartment building was prompted to check on Rich after receiving complaints about a smell coming from the home. Rich was found in his apartment, in the 500 block of Kingsley Drive on March 21, 2013, about 10 days after he was killed.

Rich and Adams knew each other, according to the district attorney’s office. Rich died of blunt head trauma, according to coroner’s records.
