Man sentenced for fatal stabbing of ex-boyfriend in La Puente

A Rowland Heights man was sentenced July 7 to 26 years to life in state prison for fatally stabbing his ex-boyfriend shortly before Valentine’s Day 2014, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

A jury on June 2 found Andres Aguirre, a 28-year-old Latino, guilty of first-degree murder.

Aguirre is accused of killing his former boyfriend, Jose Chacon, a 28-year-old Latino, on Feb. 12, 2014, in the 15000 block of Valley Boulevard in La Puente.

Prosecutors said Aguirre supplied Chacon with a large amount of alcohol and then drove him to an isolated industrial area in La Puente, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office.

Chacon got out of the car to urinate and Aguirre followed him. When Chacon tried to get back into the car, Aguirre stabbed him in the chest and back, the prosecutors said.

After the attack, Aguirre left the scene. Chacon’s body was discovered by a passerby a short time later and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

When Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies contacted Chacon’s family about his death, family members told investigators that Aguirre was last seen with Chacon before he died, according to the release.

Two days after the killing, investigators interviewed Aguirre and he admitted to stabbing Chacon, the prosecutors said. A recording of the confession was played for the jury during the trial.
