Man sentenced in Lynwood robbery-murder

A 33-year-old black man was sentenced Nov. 20 to life in state prison without the possibility of parole, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

On April 23, a jury found Kyle Henderson guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder and second-degree robbery, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Andrea Davalos.

Jorge Barrios Alvarado, a 43-year-old Latino, died Jan. 17, 2012, two days after he was shot in the 11800 block of Atlantic Avenue in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting occurred Jan. 15, when Henderson entered Crystal Produce Meat Market in Lywood, pulled out a gun and robbed the cashier, said Davalos.

The cashier fled to a neighboring business, where she told the manager and Alvarado that she had been robbed. Armed with a knife, the manager and Alvarado confronted the robber as he was leaving the market, the prosecutor said.

The shop manager stabbed Henderson in neck. Henderson then fired his weapon, striking Alvarado in the head. Alvarado was transported to a hospital where he later died, Davalos said.
