Manka Alonzo Melson, 38

Manka Melson, a 38-year-old black man, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, a year and a half after he was shot near 105th Street and Antwerp Street in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Melson was injured during a gang-related shooting Sept. 5, 2010.

The incident left him a quadriplegic, Winter said. Since the shooting, Melson had been in and out of the hospital for complications related to the attack.

He most recently was hospitalized for pneumonia and died Jan. 24.

Winter had no other information about Melson's death or the shooting.
