Mario Montoya, 38

Mario Montoya, a 38-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Saturday, June 30, in the 4200 block of Live Oak Street in Cudahy, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Montoya was walking on Live Oak Street near his home in Bell when the shooting occurred, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred. 

Deputies were called to the area at 11:17 p.m. regarding a gunshot victim and found Montoya lying on the sidewalk, Alfred said. 

Montoya was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators don’t have a description of the suspect, or whether the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle. Residents reported hearing the gunfire, but no one reported seeing the actual shooting, Alfred said. 

Montoya’s stepsister, Denise Gonzalez, has started a fundraising page to help his family with funeral expenses.
