Marques McNeil, a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, May 9, at 78th Street and Avalon Boulevard in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

McNeil was sitting in a parked car about 12:10 a.m. when another car pulled up and a person inside shot at him, said Det. Doug Pierce of the LAPD's 77th Street Division.

McNeil exited the vehicle and tried to flee, but collapsed on the sidewalk, Pierce said. He was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m., according to coroner's records.

There were numerous witnesses to the shooting, however no one has come forward with information, Pierce said.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

Thanks for such an intelligent response, however when you quoted that"
I always wonder why people say for these gangsters to "RIP" when their victims must be at their sides tormenting them for the crimes they inflicted upon others.

THIS SIMPLY IS NOT A RESOLUTION TO HELP STOP THE VOILENT ACTS WE ENCOUNTER EVERYDAY. All I'm saying is, Marques may have people that thought of him as some type of MONSTER, but the reality is, we all have had some life experiences and may at times had altercations with others, but it does not nessecarily constitute us as a bad person. Marques had several good qualities. Again,as I stated in my last commit,he always talked to his younger siblings and cousins in hopes of steering them in the right direction. He certainly always had an encouraging word for his little cousin, "my newphew", who as I stated is doing quite well for himself. He never once said to him, disrespect another, kill, or destroy, but he always reminded him to keep up the good work. I believe this counts as mentoring, encouraging, and inspiring.

To all the crictics,

Well from the first moment I saw my newphew after he was born,I starting affectionally refering to him as "Auntie's Stinkie Boy Toy". Just to let you know he is not slow, in fact he graduated "Cum Sum Laude" in 2008 from UCLA. He was the president of the National Black Engineers UCLA Chapter. Just to add,he was offered a job with Microsoft right before graduating and now resides in Seattle,WA. Talking about a six figure salary at age 23 and he's still "Auntie's Stinkie Boy Toy" and will always be. By the way, did I mention that he received an Innovation Award for writing a program for Microsoft? I hardly think just because we give these names, it means a kid is slow. Yes, I do have bragging rights. Sitcom 3 how can you say your from the human race,it seems to me all your doing is promoting voilence,sort of like a cheerleader at a high football game. Try contacting one of the neighborhood Boy and Girl Clubs to see if they need volunteers. Obviously you have way to much idol time on your hand. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY, IDOL TIME IS THE DEVILS WORKSHOP. NOW WE WANT THAT,WOULD WE???

Dear Kamille & Syscom 3,

We the family of Marcus McNeil cannot place blame or judge him. I am a relative that resides 50+ miles away and I can only go by the way he treated family and friends. First and foremost, it not for you or I to pass judgement on anyone. The Bible clearly states that God shall judge all mankind. Try whispering a prayer,in hopes they will reprent and change their lives. So don't be so quit to judge. Each time I hear of a senseless crime;I can't help but to think of our future generations to come. Tip for the day: Pray for your fellow brother that the world may become a better place and some of these crimes may stop. He leaves behind a grieving mother and family, I don't wish this on any mother are family. No one is exempt, so whisper a prayer for me and I'll do the same for you too!!!
