Marquise K. Lawrence, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, March 18, in the 1400 block of South Willowbrook Avenue in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 5 p.m., Lawrence was driving a light-colored sedan east on West Johnson Street when he was struck by gunfire from a dark-colored SUV that was going in the opposite direction, L.A. County sheriff's Lt. Holly Francisco said.
Lawrence’s vehicle struck a rail at South Willowbrook Avenue and came to a rest on a residential street, Francisco said.
Lawrence was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
The dark-colored SUV was last seen driving west.
