Michael John Rush, a 62-year-old white man, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, after he was fatally assaulted near Hollywood Boulevard and North La Brea Avenue in Hollywood, according to Los Angelese County coroner’s records.
About 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 5, officers were flagged down by people who saw Rush hitting cars with a metal flashlight, said LAPD Det. Luis Carranza.
Rush struck a black BMV SUV with a flashlight, then two black men got out of the vehicle and punched him, police said.
Rush fell and hit his head on the ground. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Carranza said.
Rush was pronounced dead four days later, on Aug. 9 at 4:24 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide, records show.
Police want to speak with additional witnesses and believe more vehicles were in the area at the time of the incident.
