A story for every victim

Michael Johnson, 28 [Updated]

Michael Johnson, a 28-year-old black man, died Saturday, Sept. 25, a day after he was shot near East 104th Street and Stanford Avenue in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Johnson was driving his car on Sept. 24 at 11:09 p.m. when he was shot, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office. After being hit by gunfire, Johnson's car continued moving forward until it stuck a parked vehicle, Winter said.

Authorities were called and Johnson was taken to a hospital in Torrance where he remained until his death, according to coroner's records.

Winter said the incident was possibly gang-related.

[Update Oct. 1: Investigators do not have a description of the possible shooter, said LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Det. Scott Smith.

Smith confirmed the incident was gang-related and said Johnson was a documented gang member. It's unknown if the shooter was also a gang member, Smith said, although at the time of the assault, Johnson was driving through rival gang territory.

Anyone with information about the case or the identity of the shooter is asked to contact Det. Gerry Pantoja at (213) 485-4341. Tipsters who'd like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).]
