A story for every victim

Michael Larry Stickles, 42

Michael Larry Stickles, a 42-year-old white man, died Friday, Aug. 12, after he was shot near the corner of Cedar Street and Lakewood Boulevard in Bellflower, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Stickles was found lying on the sidewalk on Cedar Street, just north of Lakewood Boulevard, the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 10, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Phillip Martinez.

Deputies went to the residential area after receiving a call about gunfire, Martinez said.

Stickles was taken to a nearby hospital where he was put on life support, Martinez said. He was pronounced dead two days later at 10:57 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the head.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a black vehicle drive quickly from the scene after Stickles was shot, but no other suspect information is available, Martinez said. “We have very little on this case now.”

Stickles was homeless and had been staying in an encampment near the shooting scene, Martinez said. “As far as we can tell, he was homeless for quite some time.”

The case is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Homidcide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
