Michael Ronae Bowman, 18

Michael Ronae Bowman, an 18-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, June 24, in the 6400 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly before 2 a.m., a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt walked into the Happy Shoppers Market and began to shoot into the cashier area, striking Bowman, said Los Angeles police Det. Nathan Kouri.

Bowman was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:07 a.m., according to coroner’s records. Bowman was also known as “Monte,” police said.

The gunman ran outside, where he was joined by another person, who, moments earlier, had shot at a group of people outside, but didn't hit anyone.

The two then fled on foot.
