A story for every victim

Miles Rose, 26

Miles Rose, a 26-year-old black man, was fatally shot Thursday, May 5, in the 18600 block of Hatteras Street in Tarzana, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 2:15 p.m., police found a man under a carport in a condominium complex, said LAPD Capt. Paul Vernon. Witnesses told police that he had staggered away from a vehicle that was reported stolen, while the vehicle crashed about 100 feet from where Rose eventually collapsed.

“The people who shot him, we believe came there to rob him,” Vernon said of Rose.

Investigators believe the motive is narcotics related. It remains unclear whether Rose, a resident of the complex, was inside the vehicle when he was shot, or standing outside the vehicle.

Police said three people ran from the scene. Detectives traced the suspects to a motel in San Fernando, where police booked them on suspicion of murder.

Joseph Perez-Coronel, 22, and Cindy Catalan, 24, were each charged with murder and second-degree robbery, according to a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Perez-Coronel was also charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Perez-Coronel and Catalan are due back in court May 25 in Department 100 at the Van Nuys Courthouse.
