Mother sentenced in killing of newborn
Jacquelin Linaras, 25, convicted of killing her newborn baby girl, was sentenced Oct. 16, 2008, to 25 years to life in prison, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
In September 2008, a jury deliberated for less than two hours before finding Linaras guilty of first-degree murder and assault on a child.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Carolyn McNary said that Linaras killed the child shortly after giving birth on May 1, 2006, by hitting the girl's head on a cabinet.
Linaras then dumped the body in a trash bin in the Santa Clarita mobile home park where she lived. The body was found the next day by a resident hunting for recyclables.
Charges against Linaras' boyfriend were dismissed at a preliminary hearing.
