Nelson Guzman, 46 [Updated]

Nelson Guzman, a 46-year-old Latino, died Monday, April 9, two days after he was found in the 4900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard in East Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Guzman was discovered on the ground in front of a club April 7.

It was not immediately evident there was something wrong with him, Winter said. It wasn’t until Guzman was taken to the hospital and received a CAT scan that it was revealed he suffered a large skull fracture and hemorrhage.

Guzman died from his injuries on April 9.

Winter said Guzman's cause of death has been deferred pending additional lab tests. Results will not be available for at least six to eight weeks.

[Update Jan. 24, 2013: Coroner's officials said the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head. His death was ruled a homicide.]

Anyone with information about the death is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (877) 527-3247. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
