Noel Enrique Aguilar, 23

Noel Enrique Aguilar, a 23-year-old Latino, was killed in an officer involved shooting, Monday, May 26, in the 6900 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. when two L.A. County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stopped Aguilar near the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and East 69th Way. A struggle ensued and Aguilar ran off with deputies in pursuit, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

When deputies caught up with Aguilar, a second struggle occurred and Aguilar attempted to take a deputy’s handgun away, officials said.

Both deputies fired at Aguilar, who was armed with his own handgun. Aguilar was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the struggle, one of the deputies was shot in the abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.

A handgun was recovered from the crime scene, authorities reported.
