Omar Luciano-Jesus Magallanes, 22

Omar Luciano-Jesus Magallanes, a 22-year-old Latino, died on Monday, Feb. 27, after he was shot in the 6400 block of Ajax Avenue in Bell Gardens, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Magallanes was walking south with a friend on the east side of Ajax Avenue when a northbound car pulled alongside them, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch. 

Someone in the car pulled out a gun and began shooting, Jauch said. Magallanes was struck; his friend, a 16-year-old Latino, was not injured. 

The car continued driving north, out of view, Jauch said. 

Magallanes was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:28 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators don’t have a motive for the shooting or a description of the attacker, Jauch said.
