A story for every victim

Omar Medina, 27

Omar Medina, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Feb. 22, in the 12700 block of Montague Street in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

About 12:20 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Division responded to a call of a shooting and found Medina suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the department.

Medina was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:29 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Another man who was shot was taken to a hospital.

Police said that both Medina and the other man were at a party where cockfighting was taking place in the backyard. During the event, an argument broke out between at least two people, which led to the shooting.

When police arrived, witnesses had already left. Police found several dead roosters in the yard.

According to an online fundraiser set up for Medina's family, he was a married father of four children.

"His impact will live on through those he loved and loved him in return," the organizer wrote.
