Past case: Pasadena man sentenced in nightclub shooting
A Pasadena man was sentenced Dec. 19, 2011, to state prison for a 2007 murder in Pasadena, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
Johnl Dvon Reynolds, 24, was sentenced to 75 years to life and ordered to pay $8,000 in restitution for the shooting death of Ebony Jasmine Huel.
On Oct. 21, after deliberating for about four hours, jurors found Reynolds guilty of first-degree murder and attempted murder of a second victim.
Just before closing arguments, Reynolds pleaded no contest to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Ebony, 16, was shot in the head on Aug. 17, 2007, at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and West Montana Street in Pasadena, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Pasadena police responding to a shots fired call found her lying wounded on the sidewalk outside of the Underground Club, a nightclub in northwest Pasadena.
She was taken to a hospital where she died the following day at 5:55 a.m.
Later that afternoon, Pasadena police arrested Reynolds. He had been released from prison three weeks before after serving an armed-robbery sentence, and was on parole.
According to Deputy Dist. Atty. Paul Kim, when Reynolds fired his weapon, his intended target was a man who had cooperated with authorities on a prior case involving the defendant.
